You Are Not Alone!

Vein problems are very common affecting more than 80 million American men and women. Vein problems usually worsen over time. There are no curative medications.

Visible Signs of vein disorders are spider veins, varicose veins, leg swelling, blue veins around the ankles, red or brown color changes of the lower legs, waxy scaling of the lower legs, hard tender painful red cords in areas of varicose veins ( phlebitis), bleeding from varicose veins, wounds on the lower legs that won’t heal

Common Symptoms include leg pain, heaviness, aching, tiredness, or fatigue.

Itching, burning, stinging, cramping, restlessness, and throbbing are also common.
Standing or sitting often makes symptoms worse. Elevating the legs usually improves symptoms. It is important to exclude other causes of leg pain like back problems, blocked arteries, arthritis, or Diabetes

Who Should Seek Treatment for Vein Disorders?

If you have ANY of the common symptoms or visible signs listed on the opposite panel your problem could be your veins. Many patients suffer needlessly for years because they have been told vein problems and treatments are considered cosmetic.

Phlebology is the medical subspecialty devoted to the treatment disorders of the venous system. This includes problems as simple as unsightly spider veins, but also includes patients with legs so severely affected that skin loss(ulceration) occurs and patients with swelling so massive that limb disfigurement and fluid weeping freely from the tissues occurs. These later stages are called chronic venous insufficiency and can be quite debilitating. Limb loss virtually never occurs from vein problems as it commonly does with Diabetes or Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD).

About Your Visit

Our comprehensive initial office visit includes a diagnostic leg vein ultrasound in our ICAVL Accredited Vascular lab, digital photography of your legs, compression garment fitting, and a thorough consultation with Dr Draughn to diagnose your venous problem, educate you about its cause, determine if it meets your insurance criteria for medical necessity, design a unique treatment plan, and discuss the benefits and risks for you to make a well informed decision.

Dr Draughn will review your symptoms, examine your legs, and advise you about further treatment.  If an ultrasound is needed to make treatment decisions, it will be scheduled at a later date with a follow up appointment to discuss results and create a treatment plan. Follow up visits and ultrasounds are billed in the usual manner.

Vein Procedures

  • Endovenous radiofrequency ablation (VNUS Closure) and microphlebectomy are the procedures most commonly performed. Most incisions are less than 1/8 inch, don’t need stitches, and are invisible when healed.
  • Oral sedation is usually prescribed.
  • Local Numbing medicine blocks pain.
  • VNUS Closure is a Walk in Walk Out procedure
  • Sclerotherapy (or vein injections) are done with the tiniest of needles.
  • Compression garments are required after all procedures. We carry the Sigvaris line of compression garments
