At Vein Specialists of the Carolinas, we want to raise awareness of DVT, PE, and of its most common complication, PTS.

The most dangerous result of a Deep Vein Thrombosis is a Pulmonary Embolism. This is when the Blood clot in the deep vein of the leg breaks loose and goes to the lungs.
It can be fatal.

But that is not the most common complication of DVT. The most common complication may take several years to develop. It can affect up to 30 to 50% of patients who have had a DVT.

Although prevention and treatment are readily available, they are rarely prescribed. This common complication is Post Thrombotic Syndrome, or PTS. It is the gradual development of pain, swelling and red or brown skin discoloration of the lower leg. It can progress to non-healing leg wounds called Venous Leg Ulcers. The treatment, graduated compression socks of 20-30 mmHg pressure, is available in both of our offices.

At Vein Specialists of the Carolinas we are here for you during this difficult time. Our RVT’s are here to rule out your DVT’s. We also have the ability to drop ship compression garments directly to your house.
