If you are part of the 50 percent of men or 75 percent of women who experience vein problems, you know how debilitating they can be. Not only can the visible, cord-like veins be unsightly and embarrassing, but they can also cause a great deal of burning and aching.

Dr. David Draughn experienced first-hand just how painful veins can be when his wife had leg pain. His wife tried a handful of different measures to stop the throbbing, but nobody was able to find the true cause.

At the time, Dr. Draughn was working as a general surgeon, but decided to change specialties after he witnessed up-close and personal how greatly quality of life could be effected by veins. If you too are experiencing vein problems, come see us for personalized attention and compassionate care.

Education Matters

Finding a doctor can be a difficult task, as nobody wants to put their health in the hands of a stranger. That’s why Dr. Draughn makes it his everyday goal to establish close relationships with each of his patients. But in order to have a connection that is based on trust, Dr. Draughn finds it just as important that you get to know him.

With more than two decades (23 years, to be exact) of experience in treating veins, Dr. Draughn’s everyday practice is truly a personal passion. He is a Board Certified General Surgeon and a Diplomate of the American Board of Phlebology who earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Millsaps College in 1983.

He then went on to receive his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Mississippi in 1987 and completed his surgical training at Louisiana State University. It was there that he earned his way to Chief Resident of General Surgery in 1992.

In his role at Vein Specialists of the Carolinas, Dr. Draughn focuses on treating varicose veins in the most minimally-invasive ways possible, and uses the most advanced medical techniques known to date. He believes in the powerful combination of sclerotherapy treatment and ultrasound localization to get to the bottom of your symptoms.

What Makes Dr. Draughn Different?

There are many vein practices, but Dr. Draughn’s is unique. Many offices perform leg ultrasounds while the patient is lying flat, allowing the doctor to search for blood clots in the deep veins.

Dr. Draughn has patients stand as he studies both the deep and superficial veins of the leg. This gives him the ability to not only search for clots, but also examine if there are any veins that are in reflux, or have a backwards flow.

When you visit Vein Specialists of the Carolinas, everything is performed safely right here in office. There is no need for extensive hospital stays. A light sedative or local anesthetic is used when needed to make sure patients are comfortable.
